The Ontario Provincial Police in Elgin County have confirmed that Tanya Wiebe’s death was the result of a murder-suicide. This confirmation comes more than three months after her passing. On January 31, 2024, shortly after eight o’clock in the morning, emergency services were dispatched to a property located on Roberts Line. This was in response to a report that was received reporting the finding of two deceased individuals.
Both Tanya Wiebe, who was 38 years old and from the Township of Malahide, and Kyle Savage, who was 34 years old and from the Municipality of Central Elgin, have been identified as the individuals who passed away. After conducting post-mortem exams, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) determined that both Wiebe and Savage had died as a result of gunshot wounds. It has been hypothesized that Wiebe’s death was the result of a murder-suicide ever since she passed away earlier this year.
On Wednesday, the police made the initial confirmation that Wiebe’s death was the consequence of a homicide committed by an individual. Under the direction of the Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigation Branch, the Elgin County OPP Crime Unit is carrying on with the investigation. They are receiving assistance from the OPP West Region Criminal Operations and the OPP Forensic Identification Services, and they are working in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
On Saturday evening in Aylmer, members of the hockey community in the region lined the street and participated in a stick-tap salute to those who were attending a visitation at a funeral home. One of how she was defined as a devoted mother was by the fact that she was always present at her son’s hockey practices and games.
