NWS: Snow on horizon overnight and into New Year’s in CT. What to know

Be careful driving this New Year’s Eve.

According to the National Weather Service, residents can expect snow “mainly after midnight” with a low of 25 degrees. Winds are expected to be between “6 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.”

Snow is expected to continue into New Year’s Day, “mainly before 7 a.m.,” according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures will stay cool, “falling to around 19 by 5 p.m. Northwest wind 13 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.”

Those traveling this evening or into the overnight for New Year’s celebrations should be cognizant of slick travel from snowfall,” Accuweather said. Snow is “arriving across the western areas of southern New England” between 10 p.m. and midnight, and eastern areas between midnight and 2 a.m. Snow continues into early Thursday morning. Please allow for extra travel time between your destinations.”

The weather should clear up by Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.
