Police in Meriden have arrested a man and accused him of threatening a child.

Jeffrey Alverado, 38, faces charges of first-degree threatening and risk of injury to a child, Lt. Darrin McKay of the Meriden Police Department said in a news release Friday.

According to McKay, the arrest came after the department’s Special Crimes and Crime Suppression Unit in July began investigating an incident involving threats made toward a child. Investigators obtained a warrant charging Alverado.

Additional information about the investigation was not released, including the relationship between Alverado and the victim.

Alverado was held on a $150,000 bond following the arrest.

“We at the Meriden Police Department are wholeheartedly committed to protecting children,” McKay said in a statement. “We understand the impact of these crimes, and we work with partner agencies to help provide services to the affected victims and their families.

“We appreciate the victim’s bravery and cooperation in this case which likely resulted in the prevention of future crimes against children,” McKay said. “It is the policy of the Meriden Police Department to fully investigate every allegation of crimes against children that is brought to our organization.”
