Two people were taken to the hospital following a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in Hartford where a man had to be rescued from the third floor on Thursday.
Crews responded to the report of a structure fire at on Wethersfield Avenu. just after 9:30 a.m. and found a basement fire in the three-story, 12-unit brick apartment building, according to the Hartford Fire Department.
Firefighters found that the fire conditions extended to the upper floors where heavy smoke was reported, fire officials said. A second alarm was called in for additional crews.
According to fire officials, firefighters used a ladder to rescue a man from the third floor. Crews deployed multiple hose lines and were able to knock down the fire and bring it under control, fire officials said.
One person was taken to a hospital for possible smoke inhalation, according to fire officials. A second person believed to be suffering anxiety was also taken to a hospital, fire officials said.
It was not immediately clear how many residents were displaced by the fire. Fire officials said they were being assisted by the fire department’s Special Services Unit and the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
