Zunwei Shao Death: Man Killed In Fatal Crash Involving An Electric Scooter, New Castle: The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving an electric scooter that occurred in New Castle Sunday night that left one man dead.
On May 26, 2024, at around 8:46 p.m., authorities reported that a 2015 Honda Accord was driving north on New Castle Avenue in the left turn lane at the intersection with Memorial Drive. Simultaneously, a Tifgalop K-8 electric scooter was approaching the Memorial Drive junction while traveling south on New Castle Avenue.
Authorities claim that the scooter’s lighting was inadequate and that it was dark when the collision occurred. As the Honda tried to turn left onto Memorial Drive, the driver failed to notice the scooter approaching the junction. Consequently, the scooter’s front side collided with the Honda’s right side at the junction.
The rider of the scooter, identified as Zunwei Shao, 37, was not wearing a safety helmet or reflective clothing. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda, a 50-year-old female from Wilmington, was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. For over three hours, the road was blocked off as the incident was cleared and examined.
