Zachry Brent Bailey was taken into custody by the Apache Police Department on a felony warrant early on Sunday morning. A 19-year-old who was previously detained for impersonating a medical assistant and pleading guilty to that charge in 2022 has now been charged with bilking a vehicle dealership out of over $100,000.
Bailey, according to the Caddo County Jail log, is currently being held on two counts of theft by deception. Bailey made tens of thousands of dollars from the sale of two vehicles he didn’t own to Cooper Auto Group in Oklahoma City. Bailey sold the dealership a 2023 Acura MDX in April for $48,000, as shown by the vehicle’s history record. In May, he went back to the lot to unload a 2023 Toyota Tundra for $66,500.
The criminal acts of Bailey have been compared to those depicted in the Leonardo DiCaprio film “Catch Me if You Can,” according to the Apache Police Department. Court documents reveal that Bailey was able to pass herself off as a traveling physician’s assistant, complete with the scrubs and ID badge, in order to gain access to the hospitals.
Bailey, according to a 2022 KRIS story, spent over two months in two hospitals in Corpus Christi, Texas after posing as a medical aide to gain entry. At the time, he was only 17 years old. When Bailey made the mistaken claim that he attended Stephen’s College, a private university in Missouri, his entire story fell apart. For the physician’s assistant case, he received a six-year probation term.
One of the nurses in the intensive care unit saw that it was an all-girls institution, making it difficult for Bailey to enroll. When Bailey’s coworkers at the hospital began investigating his online profiles, they quickly learned that he was not who he claimed to be. After being charged with illegally working as a PA without a license and forging paperwork, Bailey reportedly entered a guilty plea to both charges.
Bailey has a lengthy history of criminal activity. Police said that Bailey used false information to rent an apartment, stole jewelry worth $4,300 from a Walmart, and used bank fraud to buy a BMW for $52,000. After his physician’s assistant idea fell through, Bailey allegedly planned to impersonate a police officer, according to the Apache Police Department.
The police say they found him in an abandoned police cruiser with a bulletproof vest, a gun belt, ammo, a “sheriff” T-shirt, and a “ghost gun” (a firearm without a serial number). Bailey has committed crimes in three states: Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri. After his arrest for the alleged offenses at the car dealership, he was taken to the Oklahoma’s Caddo County Jail, where he remains to this day. The amount of his bond is $200,000.
