Woman Killed Following Hit-And-Run Pedestrian Crash: A tragic hit-and-run pedestrian crash resulted in the death of a woman in her 50s on Tuesday evening, May 28, in El Paso’s Upper Valley. The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) responded to the incident after receiving a call at 9:58 p.m. about a person lying on the ground along the 6400 block of Doniphan Drive at Borderland Road. Upon arrival, officers found the woman, who had been struck by an unknown vehicle. Preliminary investigations suggest that the woman was attempting to cross Doniphan from east to west at the intersection of Borderland Road, despite a “do not walk” signal being displayed.
According to EPPD, as the woman was crossing, a northbound vehicle on Doniphan struck her and continued driving without stopping. The woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The police indicated that the contributing factor in this crash was the pedestrian crossing against the signal and failing to yield to oncoming traffic. EPPD is currently searching for a gray pickup truck with an extended cab or four doors, believed to be involved in the incident.
Additionally, investigators have identified potential witnesses who were at the Circle K located at the intersection of Borderland and Doniphan at the time of the crash. They are urging anyone with information about the fatal crash to come forward. Those with relevant information are encouraged to contact the police at the non-emergency number (915) 832-4400. To remain anonymous, individuals can call Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-8477. The community’s cooperation is crucial in helping to bring the responsible party to justice and providing closure for the victim’s family.
