CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 48-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a car early Monday morning in north Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Around 6:50 a.m. on Jan. 6, officers responded to the 4500 block of Reagan Drive about a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. When they arrived, they found 48-year-old Petrina Ann Williams lying on the ground. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died, officials said.
Also at the scene was a 2018 Ford Transit with damages to the windshield and front right of the car. CMPD said the driver, a 20-year-old man, stayed at the scene and was not impaired during the crash.
Investigators believe the Ford was going west on Reagan Drive towards N. Graham Street when Williams crossed the street in front of the vehicle. Police say it was dark and raining at the time of the crash. Williams was also reportedly wearing dark clothing and walking outside of a marked crosswalk.
Speed is not considered a factor in the collision and Willimas’ toxicology reports are still pending. Her next of kin have been notified of her death.
Authorities say this is an active investigation. Any witnesses or anyone with information should contact Detective Mercedes at 704-432-2169, Ext. 5, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
