Woman dies in SW Houston multi-vehicle crash after being rear-ended at a red signal; A tragic four-vehicle crash in southwest Houston on Friday resulted in the death of a woman and left five others hospitalized. The incident occurred at around 9:25 a.m. on the service road of 10900 South Sam Houston Parkway West.
According to the Houston Police Department (HPD), the chain of events began when a man driving a silver Honda Accord was heading westbound on West Airport Boulevard and entered the intersection of South Sam Houston Parkway West. The Honda was struck from behind by a silver Hyundai Accent, driven by a woman who allegedly ran a red light after failing to control her speed.
The impact from the Hyundai caused the Honda to collide with a green Toyota Camry that was traveling eastbound on West Airport Boulevard and turning left onto the service road. The force of the collision pushed the Camry across the intersection, where it was subsequently struck by a white Mack van, also turning left and traveling eastbound.
The driver of the Hyundai Accent was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The male driver of the Honda Accord, along with three passengers—including two juveniles and a female—were transported to a hospital, where they were stabilized.
The male driver of the Toyota Camry was also taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the Mack van remained at the scene and did not sustain any injuries.
HPD is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly crash. They are working to determine the exact sequence of events and any contributing factors to the collision. Community members with any information related to the incident are encouraged to contact the Houston Police Department to aid in their investigation.
