Woman And Child Seriously Hurt In Woolwich Accident: A woman and child were seriously injured in a crash in Woolwich on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 7 p.m. near 1044 Middle Road, also known as Route 127, according to a press release from Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry. The preliminary investigation revealed that Chloe Monsen, 31, of Bath, was driving a 2007 Toyota Rav-4 northbound on Route 127 when the vehicle veered across the northbound lane, left the roadway, and collided head-on with a cluster of trees.
First responders had to extricate Monsen from the vehicle. She was then flown to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries, which are not considered life-threatening. Sheriff Merry noted that Monsen was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Evidence suggests that the crash was alcohol-related. A 4-year-old boy was also in the vehicle during the crash. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center. Fortunately, the child was secured in a child-safety seat, which prevented more critical injuries.
“Driving while impaired continues to be a serious problem,” Sheriff Merry emphasized. “Our efforts to combat the issue are ongoing, but it’s important for the public to understand that the consequences of driving while impaired are life-changing and can even be deadly. With the summer season upon us and traffic increasing, it’s crucial that everyone does their part to prevent drunk driving.”
The crash reconstruction is being handled by members of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office, Brunswick Police Department, and Freeport Police Department. The sheriff’s office has stated that the investigation is ongoing. Assistance at the scene was also provided by the Woolwich Fire Department and Woolwich EMS. Route 127 was closed for approximately two hours on Wednesday night to allow for the crash response and cleanup.
