NORTH CAROLINA (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Hundreds of flights have been canceled and more than 20 have been delayed as winter weather pushes into the Carolinas on Wednesday.
According to FlightAware, as of 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, 200 flights have been cancelled and more than 20 have been delayed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.
A bulk of the cancellations are American Airlines, followed by PSA Airlines, Piedmont Airlines, and Envoy Air.
Wednesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as winter weather moves in this morning and lasts through early Thursday morning. We’ve settled into the 30s overnight as a low-pressure system tracks east over Louisiana and pushes snow and ice into the Carolinas.
Light snow will likely start around 6 a.m. in our mountain counties and areas north of I-40. We’ll see the winter weather track south this morning as temperatures slide into the low 30s. Be on the lookout for snow to start near 8 a.m. with ice mixing in quickly afterwards.

Snow along the I-40 corridor will linger into the afternoon while we see more in the way of Ice along the I-85 corridor. Points south can see more rain mixed in with a few pockets of freezing rain and sleet possible.
Winter weather tapers off Wednesday afternoon shortly after 3 p.m. with lingering snow showers in our mountain counties and western-facing slopes. We’ll watch overnight lows dip into the upper 20s and spotty snow showers linger into Thursday morning.
We can see a few flurries through your morning commute from our mountains into Uptown.
