William Rettig Obituary, Death – William “Bill” Perry Rettig, an 88-year-old inhabitant of Findlay, passed away on April 3, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born into this world in Liberty Township, Hancock County, at the home of his parents, John “Harmon” and Erma (Miller) Rettig, on February 23, 1936. He tied the knot with Iola Shaver on February 12, 1956, at the First Church of Christ in Findlay.
Bill was active in the 4-H and FFA programs when he was a student. His varied roles included serving as a deacon and trustee in his church, advising the Liberty Benton Livestock club’s 4-H program, mentoring junior high students, and becoming assistant chief of the Liberty Township Fire Department. He was an entrepreneur, farmer, CODA member, and PHP facilitator, among many other things.
Bill enjoyed spending Friday nights playing Mexican Train dominoes with his friends Jim and Sharon Williams, Dick and Ilean Peterson, Larry and Helen Karch, and Dick and Ilean. In his spare time, he liked fishing, hunting, and camping. Bucket-List Barn Sales was founded by Bill and Calvin, who is also involved in the antiques trade.
From 1:00 to 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 6, 2024, the COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME will be open for visitors. Sunday, April 7, 2024, from 1 to 2 pm, the funeral home will be open one hour before to the service in celebration of the life of the departed. The actual service is scheduled to start at 2 pm. Steve Dauterman and Rick Broughton will preside over the event.
