William Bailey James Smith Death – The Cherokee County Coroner, Dennis Fowler, reported that a fatal crash occurred on McGill Highway at around 10:45 p.m. on Friday, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old driver.
The teenager was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck as the sole occupant when he veered off the road, overcorrected, crossed to the opposite side, and collided with a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The deceased driver was identified as William Bailey James Smith, residing on Indian Springs Road.
Smith was rushed to Cherokee Medical Center by ambulance but succumbed to his injuries in the emergency department shortly after 12:50 a.m. on Saturday.
Fowler emphasized that speed played a role in the accident, and an autopsy is set to take place on Monday as per the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office
