Whitney Hurd Obituary, Death; – The man charged with murder in the stabbing death of a Charlotte relator apparently confessed to the crime, according to the Mecklenburg County district attorney.
Brandon Braxton, 33, was arrested and charged on Thursday, March 20 in connection with the death of Charlotte realtor Whitney Hurd. The charge comes more than eight months after Hurd was found dead in 2024. Hurd, 32, was found dead in her SouthPark townhome on July 14, 2024. She was reported missing three days earlier, and her family hired a private investigator to find her.
A 911 call revealed that when the private investigator went into Hurd’s townhome on Werburgh Street, he found her body inside. Records revealed that Hurd was stabbed to death and found wrapped in bedding. Her death was ruled a homicide. A search warrant identified 33-year-old Brandon Braxton as a person of interest in the case after his fingerprints were found Hurd’s home. A warrant later confirmed that a DNA swab led investigators to conclude that “the DNA of Brandon David Braxton … is evidence of that murder.”
Court records show that Braxton has been arrested at least seven other times in Mecklenburg County in the time since Hurd’s death. Braxton has faced charges that include assault on a female, simple assault, injury to property and larceny.
Prior to his March 20 arrest, though, Braxton did not face any charges related to Hurd’s death. Upon his arrest this week, Braxton was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with Hurd’s death. The robbery charge came after Braxton allegedly stole Hurd’s BMW X3 and her cellphone.
On Friday, March 21, the Mecklenburg County district attorney said officers learned through interviews with those close to Hurd that she and Braxton were “friends” in high school, but “lost touch” for many years. But Braxton then “began showing up to her residence.” The district attorney also said in open court that those friends also shared with police that there was “one incident where he had fallen asleep on
