(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Wednesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as winter weather moves in this Wednesday morning and lasts through early Thursday morning. We’ve settled into the 30s overnight as a low-pressure system tracks east over Louisiana and pushes snow and ice into the Carolinas.
Light snow will likely start around 6 AM in our mountain counties and areas north of I-40. We’ll see the winter weather track south Wednesday morning as temperatures slide into the low 30s. Be on the lookout for snow to start near 8 AM with ice mixing in quickly afterwards.
Snow along the I-40 corridor will linger into the afternoon while we see more in the way of ice along the I-85 corridor. Points south can see more rain mixed in with a few pockets of freezing rain and sleet possible.

Winter weather tapers off Wednesday afternoon shortly after 3 PM with lingering snow showers in our mountain counties and western-facing slopes. We’ll watch as overnight lows dip into the upper 20s and spotty snow showers linger into Thursday morning. We can see a few flurries through your morning commute from our mountains into Uptown!
Storm totals won’t be too significant as moisture has come down significantly for this storm. Snow totals will range from 1 to 2 inches along the I-40 corridor, while uptown can see a dusting to half an inch at best. Some isolated spots in our higher elevations can see as much as 4 inches through Thursday morning.
In terms of ice, we’re looking at a light glaze to a tenth of an inch, which should limit the amount of sagging power lines and downed tree limbs. Chesterfield County may see the most with up to two-tenths of an inch possible, which could lead to spotty power outages.
A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect Wednesday through noon on Thursday for all of our North Carolina counties and for Lancaster and Chesterfield counties.

Thursday will usher in some sunshine after the morning snow tapers off. Highs will still be limited to the 30s to start the second half of the work week before a potent warming trend takes hold. We’ll have to endure teens overnight heading into Friday with mid-40s finishing off the work week.
This weekend will get us back into the 50s with a mix of sun and clouds ahead of the 60s taking hold heading into early next week.
Wednesday: Mostly Cloudy & Cold with Snow, Ice, & Rain Likely. High: 38.
Weds. Night: Cold & Cloudy with Lingering Snow Showers. Low: 27.
