(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Wednesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as freezing rain hits the mountains this morning and rounds of heavy rain impact Uptown. Be on the lookout for icy conditions north and the threat of hydroplaning around Uptown.

Mountains will have an Ice Storm Warning for Avery Country and a Winter Weather Advisory for Caldwell County until 7 AM this morning. Look for the Winter Storm Warning for Watauga and Ashe Counties to last until 4 PM, as this afternoon can bring a second round of Freezing Rain around 1 PM.
Rain has already taken hold this morning, with up to a quarter of an inch being seen so far around Uptown. Areas south have seen more than a third of an inch, and we still have a ways to go before the showers fully taper off.
Temperatures sit in the 30s today and won’t budge too much ahead of an approaching warm front from the south. As the front tracks north, so will the showers, with temperatures warming up into the 40s. This will end the freezing rain in our mountain counties as showers linger overnight.
Thursday morning will see another round of heavy rain, making for another wet and dicey morning commute. Temperatures will warm up into the 60s after morning showers taper off. Skies will open up, but above-normal conditions will be brief as Friday only hits the low 50s.
Saturday & Sunday will hit the low 50s and low 60s as wet weather comes back for the weekend. We’ll dry out with cooler temperatures returning early next week.
