CHARLOTTE (PINPOINT WEATHER) — Good evening and happy New Year! We kicked off the new year with cooler temperatures behind the cold front, and that is just the start of what will be a prolonged period of below-average temperatures for the Carolinas. Our next chance for wet, and some wintry weather will come Sunday night and Monday as an area of low pressure moves through the region.
As for tonight and your Thursday, mostly clear skies are expected overnight along with lows down around the freezing mark. Thursday, we are tracking more sunshine and cool temperatures across the Carolinas with highs around the 50-degree mark.
Friday we are expecting another, reinforcing cold front, that will push through the region with dry weather in Charlotte, but possible snow showers up in the mountains as the front moves through. Behind it, our temperatures will take another dip as we head through the weekend with highs in the low 40s.
Sunday, we are tracking another storm system that will move in starting later in the day with rain expected in Charlotte, but sleet and freezing rain is expected up in the mountains. The wet and wintry weather will continue into Monday before clearing out later in the day.
Behind the storm system temperatures will get even colder for the middle of the week with highs likely staying down in the 30s. In the meantime, enjoy the starry skies and the new year! Have a great night!
