Victims Of Memorial Day Weekend Violence In Philadelphia Saw Three Killings In Less Than 45 Minutes: Violence has broken out in Philadelphia during the extended holiday weekend.
In less than an hour on Sunday night, three different fatal gunshots were reported to the police.
Just before 10:30 p.m., gunfire could be heard on Rorer Street by Bingham in the Feltonville neighborhood of Philadelphia.
According to police, multiple gunmen opened fire on a gathering of people across the street. The gang at the top of the block seemed to have fired back.
Officers on the scene discovered a man who had been shot in the head many times. At the hospital, the doctor declared him dead.
More than twenty rifle and pistol bullets were among the two groups of spent round casings that investigators looked at, as was another group near the top of the block that had about a dozen shots.
Then, in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of the city, there was another deadly shooting around thirty minutes later.
Officers were summoned to the intersection of Stanley and Cumberland streets just before eleven p.m. After being shot, a 23-year-old guy was driven to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he was later declared deceased.
At the location, investigators found almost twenty expended bullet casings.
In an effort to put an end to the violence, Philadelphia Ceasefire’s Angelo Booker was out on the streets on Sunday night putting placards.
“I was just watching the basketball game and I heard a barrage of shots,” Booker stated. “I come down here to see if I can be of any assistance. If I can reach out and accomplish whatever was required.”
He expressed his hope that by being visible in the neighborhood, someone could be inspired to testify in the case.
“They themselves are victims. They may obtain the assistance they require by calling us,” he continued.
Then, about 11:15 p.m. Sunday in North Philadelphia, cops were summoned to the 2900 block of West Wishart Street. A 55-year-old resident of that block was found to have had one gunshot wound to the head.
One spent shell casing was recovered.
Police don’t know the motive but said the gunman was on foot and ran away in an unknown direction. Police say it’s unclear if she was the intended target.
There have been no arrests in any of these incidents.
