Vickie Smith Obituary, Death; – Virginia State Police announced on Thursday the identification of the individual who lost their life in a fire that occurred on January 9 in Augusta County.
The incident took place just before midnight at a location on 1477 Guthrie Road, which is associated with Mountain Creek Stables. The authorities have not yet disclosed the cause or origin of the fire. According to Virginia State Police, three individuals were present in the building during the fire, with only two managing to escape. The third individual was discovered deceased within the premises.
On Thursday, the Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas confirmed the identity of the victim as 68-year-old Vickie Smith. At this stage, the fire is not deemed suspicious. Matthew Demlein, a spokesperson for the Virginia State Police, expressed gratitude towards the Stuart’s Draft Volunteer Fire Department for their significant assistance in the investigation of this incident.
The investigation remains ongoing. This fire marks the second fatal incident in the region within a month; on December 20, a small structure fire in the 200 block of Bookerdale Road in Waynesboro resulted in the death of 47-year-old Abraham Hernandez Sanchez, also from Waynesboro.
