Vanessa Marie Savitsky Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a woman from Shelby Township who lost her life in a collision involving a teenage driver on Monday evening in Macomb Township.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office reported that surveillance footage from the vicinity indicated a white Dodge Ram was traveling south on Hayes Road, approaching the intersection with Snowbird Drive, at approximately 7:27 p.m. on Monday. The vehicle swerved left, crossing the center turn lane and entering the path of oncoming northbound traffic, as detailed in a press release issued on Tuesday.
The pickup truck collided head-on with a white Mazda operated by 45-year-old Vanessa Marie Savitsky of Shelby Township. The Mazda subsequently rolled over multiple times before coming to rest upside down on the grass adjacent to northbound Hayes, according to the sheriff’s office.
Savitsky was declared deceased at the scene. The 17-year-old driver of the Dodge truck was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. According to Macomb County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jennifer Putney, he had been released by Tuesday evening.
The sheriff’s office noted that both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles. A notice on the Facebook page of the Macomb County Department of Roads indicated that a section of Hayes Road, between 21 Mile and Winter Park Road, was closed to traffic for two hours following the crash as authorities conducted their investigation. While alcohol is not suspected to have played a role in the incident, the investigation remains ongoing, according to police.
