On Thursday afternoon, a UPS driver named Expedito Deleon was fatally shot while seated in his truck at an industrial park in Irvine.
Police reported that the gunman was apprehended after a standoff.
The incident occurred around 3 p.m. in the vicinity of Chrysler and Bendix, as per the Irvine Police Department. Numerous individuals reported hearing multiple gunshots.
The victim, a male, was discovered in the driver’s seat of his truck.
Despite efforts by officers to provide assistance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
It remains uncertain whether the victim was trailed to the industrial park or if the suspect had been waiting there.
However, authorities have stated that this does not seem to be a robbery and that the UPS driver was specifically targeted.
Video footage depicted a police canopy positioned beside a UPS truck, with officers conducting a thorough search of the vicinity for evidence.
The immediate area was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.
Authorities have indicated that the area where the UPS driver was shot was a customary spot for him to take breaks after completing deliveries.
Later, authorities found the suspect’s vehicle several miles away on Santiago Canyon Road, situated between Jamboree and Irvine Lake, leading to a standoff.
Eventually, the suspect was apprehended after being dislodged from the truck with the assistance of a K9 unit.
