Tyler Wilson Death: Vigo County Sheriff Confirms Death Of Teen Struck By Fire Department Vehicle
Tyler Wilson Death: The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 17-year-old Tyler Wilson, who was flown to Indianapolis after being hit by a pickup truck belonging to the Prairieton Fire Department, has died. In a Facebook post, the sheriff’s office identified the boy as Tyler Wilson, a resident of Vigo County. According to the Sheriff’s office, investigators believe that the brushfire near the scene of the accident was started by Wilson.
VCSO Chief of Operations Derek Fell stated that no charges will be filed in the incident. The tragic incident occurred at 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday near a residence on S. Paddock Place in Terre Haute. Initially responding to a brush fire call, deputies were informed en route that fire personnel had requested EMS and a lifeline helicopter to the scene.
When deputies arrived, they discovered that a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500, registered to the Prairieton/Prairie Creek Fire Department, had struck a pedestrian. The pedestrian, identified as Tyler Wilson, was treated on scene by EMS before being flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by helicopter.
Chief Fell mentioned that the firefighter driving the truck was tested for drugs and alcohol, with preliminary results coming back negative. The identity of the firefighter has not been released.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, along with accident reconstruction teams, is conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident. Chief Fell could not provide further details on the status of the investigation.
This tragic event has left the community mourning the loss of Tyler Wilson, a young life cut short. The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office and other local authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
