Tyler McWilliams Obituary, Death; – A teenager has died following a shooting incident in Baton Rouge. The event occurred at approximately 9:37 p.m. on Thursday at Brown’s One Stop Convenience Store, located in the 1455 block of N. Acadian Thruway.
Officers, along with Major Assault Detectives from the Baton Rouge Police Department, were dispatched to the Baton Rouge General Mid-City Hospital in response to a gunshot victim. The victim, identified as Tyler McWilliams, was reported to have life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, he later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
East Baton Rouge Schools confirmed that McWilliams was a 9th grader at Istrouma High School. The East Baton Rouge Parish School System issued the following statement:
“We regret to inform you of two tragic incidents involving our students this week that have profoundly impacted our school community.
Firstly, we are devastated to announce that Tyler McWilliams, a 9th grader at Istrouma High School, was shot in the community on April 10, 2025. Despite the dedicated efforts of medical personnel, Tyler passed away from his injuries today, April 11, 2025. This heartbreaking loss has left his family, friends, and our entire school community in deep sorrow.
Additionally, we must convey the tragic news regarding Jayce Shawn Wright, a 12-year-old 7th grader at CSAL Middle School, who lost his life in a four-wheeler accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jayce’s family, friends, and classmates during this incredibly challenging time.
In response to these events, we are dedicated to supporting our students, staff, and families. I CARE will be coordinating counseling services and resources for those who may require assistance in coping with this grief. It is crucial that we unite as a community to support one another during this difficult period.
We appreciate your prayers and support as we navigate these profound tragedies together.” The identity of the suspect(s) and the motives behind the shooting remain unknown at this time.
