Tyler Cade Nugent,Sherry L Nugent Obituary, Death; – A mother and son have lost their lives following a domestic violence incident on Phillips Road.
On Thursday, January 30, the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report indicating that a man, later identified as 23-year-old Tyler Cade Nugent, had shot his mother, 47-year-old Sherry L. Nugent.
The caller informed deputies that Tyler also fired at his father when he attempted to intervene. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found that Tyler had barricaded himself inside the residence.
Law enforcement officials attempted to communicate with Tyler multiple times in an effort to de-escalate the situation, but he refused to surrender. After some time, the Special Response Team (SRT) was deployed to enter the home.
According to officials from the Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office, Tyler “continued to resist compliance, prompting SRT members to discharge their weapons.” Despite immediate medical assistance, Tyler succumbed to his injuries, and it was confirmed that Sherry also passed away.
CPSO detectives are currently investigating the initial homicide, while a multi-jurisdictional Officer-Involved Shooting Team is conducting an independent review of the actions taken by law enforcement. CPSO officials stated that the Louisiana State Police were informed, although no assistance was requested. Sheriff Toney Edwards issued the following statement:
“This is a heartbreaking situation that highlights the devastating effects of domestic violence. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families impacted, as well as our deputies who responded to this tragic event.”
The investigation is ongoing.
