(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Tuesday starts off slightly warmer but still cold as lows have settled into the 30s overnight under mostly clear skies and light winds. Look for clouds to build throughout the day as winds pick up ahead of Wednesday’s cold front.
Temperatures will peak above normal on Tuesday, hitting the mid-60s through the peak heating hours of the day. Look for winds to pick up and become breezy out of the south-southeast between 5 and 15 miles per hour throughout the day.
Tuesday night will see limited cooling as winds and clouds keep temperatures in the 50s heading into Wednesday. Look for a cold front to cross the Carolinas throughout the day, which will deliver storms in the morning for the Queen City.
A Wind Advisory will be in effect for Ashe, Avery, Watauga, & Ashe counties through Wednesday afternoon as wind gusts can be as fast as 50 miles per hour.
We can see damaging straight line winds and some spotty hail with these storms, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out as well. Wednesday will be a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day as storms will be a threat for our morning commute.




Our area will be under a Marginal, Slight, and Enhanced risk for severe weather as storms roll east from the morning into the afternoon. This is level 1, 2, and 3 out of 5, with the main threats being east of I-77.
Winds will remain breezy behind the cold front, with cooler temperatures rushing in. We can still see an increased risk of fire through Thursday as winds continue to flow heading into the second half of the work week.
50s will return on Thursday before 60s finish off the work week. We’ll be warm this weekend as rain chances return late Saturday into Sunday. Temperatures will settle back into the 50s, heading into early next week.
