NORTH CAROLINA (PINPOINT WEATHER) — A much cooler Monday for us, but still nice with sunshine returning in the afternoon. The next couple of days will not involve much sunshine at all, as chilly rain and an icy mix move in starting late tonight.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for the mountains, foothills & east along the I-40 corridor.
WINTER STORM WARNING for Ashe County.

These alerts are in effect for Tuesday and Wednesday as moisture moves in from the west and meets up with even colder temperatures. Most temps will hover around the mid to upper 30s Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday.
However, colder, near or below-freezing temps near the I-40 corridor and north through the mountains will lead to a mix of sleet and freezing rain, with a little snow mixed in at the higher elevations.
A light icy glaze is expected in the Advisory areas, while up to a quarter-inch of ice is possible in the Warning area of Ashe County. Plan for slick travel and possible power outages in the next couple of days.

We’ll get on-and-off waves of this rain and icy mix north through Wednesday evening. We’ll get more showers into Thursday as well but with warmer temperatures in the 60s.
Valentine’s Day Friday is looking dry! Cool again with highs in the 50s. But don’t get used to it– more showers (and potential storms) are in the forecast for the weekend.
