Tristan James Robert Mayberry Obituary – The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has identified Tristan James Robert Mayberry, 19, as the man who was shot and killed by deputies during a struggle over a gun inside a 7-Eleven on Friday. Mayberry was killed in the convenience store on West Oak Ridge Road. Deputies were conducting surveillance on a house with multiple gang members when they observed Mayberry leaving the residence with a gun.
Upon entering the 7-Eleven, two deputies confronted Mayberry, who then turned towards one of the deputies and reached for a handgun. Despite being instructed to stop, Mayberry continued to reach for the weapon, prompting the deputy to shoot him. Following the initial shot, a struggle ensued over the gun, resulting in Mayberry being shot again. Sheriff John Mina stated in a news conference that neither deputy sustained injuries during the incident.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the shooting, and the sheriff’s office will conduct its own internal investigation once the state presents its findings. The sheriff’s office has also announced that body-camera footage will be released within 30 days of the shooting.
