A man from Athens who went by the moniker “Big Dawg” and was an ardent follower of University of Georgia athletics passed away in February.
Trent Woods has preserved a cherished custom of decorating his bald head with the image of a Bulldog from the University of Georgia. Four decades ago, his grandfather started this ritual. At UGA football games, The Woods became a recognizable and sought-after site.
According to Woods’ family, he passed away at the age of 46 from unspecified natural causes.
When UGA football won the national title in 1980, Woods’ grandfather Lonnie Lee Woods Sr. painted a bulldog on his head, starting the head-painting tradition.
After Woods passed away in 1987, Mike “Big Dawg” Woods, his son, carried on the family legacy. At the age of 65, Mike Woods passed away in 2017 from a cardiac ailment.
In a 2013 interview, Mike Woods stated to the Banner-Herald, “My whole family bleeds red and black.
