Tragic Crash on State Road 40 in Marion County Claims Multiple Lives
The tragic incident claimed the lives of two individuals, a 73-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman, both from Waterloo, South Carolina. The third fatality was a 33-year-old woman driving the stolen patrol car.
The crash involved a stolen Marion County Sheriff’s Office patrol car and a pickup truck. The stolen patrol car was being driven by a 33-year-old woman who was fleeing from law enforcement. The woman had stolen the patrol car after a deputy exited the vehicle to respond to a suspicious incident call at Forest Plaza. The stolen patrol car collided with a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction on State Road 40. Two occupants of the pickup truck, a 73-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman, were killed in the crash. A third occupant of the pickup truck was critically injured and transported to a local hospital.
The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the crash. Deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office are also on the scene investigating the incident. The investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been released at this time.
State Road 40 has been closed in both directions from South West 180 Avenue Road to South West 140 Avenue. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route and avoid the area until the investigation is complete
