Tragic Accident: Husband and Pregnant Wife Drown While Snorkeling on Babymoon in Hawaii
MAUI
– During their Hawaii vacation, an expectant mother and her husband from Washington state perished while swimming.
Ilya and Sophia Tsaruk were identified as the pair on a GoFundMe website.
Ilya Tsaruk was twenty-five, and Sophia Tsaruk was twenty-six, according to the Maui County Fire Department.
On Saturday afternoon, firefighters reported that they responded to a report of snorkelers in trouble at the north side of the Ahihi-Kinau Natural Area Reserve on the island of Maui.
When first responders pulled two persons out of the water, they reported that neither of them was responding.
Sadly, despite the firefighters’ best efforts, neither the husband nor the wife were able to be saved. At the scene, both were declared deceased.
Sophia Tsaruk was expecting a baby girl, the couple’s second child, according to the GoFundMe page.
The baby was due in December, and the couple planned to name her Melody, according to KITV.
According to the GoFundMe, the 18-month-old son of the Tsaruks was living with his aunt and uncle after his parents passed away.
The Tsaruks, together with Ilya Tsaruk’s brother and his wife, were on vacation when the catastrophe struck, according to KITV.
It was rumored that the trip doubled as the Tsaruks’ anniversary celebration and babymoon.
The goal of the GoFundMe is to collect enough money to pay for the funerals and to transport the bodies back from Hawaii.
The post requested for prayers and portrayed the Tsaruks as deeply religious people.
“We are grateful for the wonderful memories and times we spent with them and feel privileged to have had both of them in our life. The page said, “May God help us all to love and serve one another as Ilya and Sophia served. Their serving spirit and warm company will never be forgotten.”
