Traffic Accident On I-65 Today – An individual was killed in Breckinridge County on Sunday as a result of a pursuit by the Kentucky State Police.
An update provided by the Kentucky State Police stated that the pursuit began at approximately 5:30 p.m. when a trooper in Meade County attempted to pull over a vehicle that was speeding but the vehicle refused to stop. KSP said that the pursuit then entered Breckinridge County by turning west onto Kentucky State Route 333. A collision occurred when the car crossed the center line and collided with another vehicle at the junction on McDonald Road.
The driver of the vehicle that was being pursued, Rodney Richars, who was 51 years old and from Radcliff, was pronounced dead at the site of the accident. Life-threatening injuries were sustained by both the driver of the vehicle that was struck and the passenger, who was 14 years old. Both were transported to the hospital by helicopter. Reportedly, the trooper observed a Ford Fusion traveling at an excessive speed and attempted to pull over the driver. It was reported by the KSP that the Fusion did not stop, and the trooper started pursuing it.
As far as Breckinridge County is concerned, the pursuit continued all the way to the crossroads of Kentucky Route 333 and McDonald Lane. The state police reported that the Fusion had crossed the center line and collided with a Jeep at that location. Exit 86 (Glendale) that leads to US 31W and then back onto Interstate 65 at the Exit 76 interchange in Upton is the obligatory detour that must be taken in order to continue south. The lengthy process of turning around motorists who are stranded in the queue between each scene and an exit ramp is currently underway. It is strongly recommended that motorists who are approaching the area make plans for alternative routes well in advance of the obligatory detour coming into effect.
Exit 91 to Western Kentucky Parkway Westbound, then take I-165 Southbound, and then find your way back to Interstate 65 in Bowling Green. This is the greatest choice for individuals who are going through the area toward Bowling Green. For a typical drive down Interstate 65 in the southbound direction between the two places, this route is just around twenty minutes different from the standard route. There is also congestion in the local traffic along US 31W and the highways that overlap with it. When approaching junctions and entrances, please be mindful of the increased volume of traffic and exercise additional caution.
Rodney Richards, 51,, a resident of Radcliff, was the driver of the Fusion, and he passed away at the site. A passenger in the Jeep who was 14 years old and the driver of the Jeep were both sent to separate hospitals in Louisville with injuries that were considered to be life-threatening. For the purpose of allowing Kentucky State Police troopers to recreate the crash, a part of KY-333 was closed for several hours. An investigation is being conducted by the Critical Incident Response Team of the Kentucky State Police.
