Teresa Emmons Obituary, Death; – An Elizabethton woman has been charged with vehicular homicide following an incident that allegedly involved an altercation, resulting in two other women being struck by a vehicle.
The Elizabethton Police Department (EPD) reported that officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Race Street on February 14 regarding two women who had been hit by a vehicle that subsequently fled the scene. Upon arrival, officers discovered one woman unresponsive and the other exhibiting a visible head injury, as stated in an EPD news release.
Both individuals were transported to a local hospital by the Carter County Rescue Squad, where the unresponsive woman was later pronounced deceased. The deceased has been identified as Teresa Emmons, 57, from Elizabethton.
The vehicle that had fled was located and stopped shortly after the officers’ arrival. The driver was identified as Kristie Oliver Bishop, 50, also from Elizabethton. The EPD indicated that Bishop had an outstanding arrest warrant from Washington County, Tennessee, and was operating a vehicle with a revoked license.
During the traffic stop, two clear bags containing what appeared to be methamphetamine were visible. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed additional items, including:
Another bag believed to contain methamphetamine
A bag of leafy material suspected to be marijuana
Four glass smoking pipes
A prescription bottle without a label containing three different narcotics
The EPD’s preliminary investigation indicated that an altercation involving the three women led to the victims being struck by Bishop’s vehicle in the driveway.
Bishop was arrested and taken to the Carter County Jail, where she faces several charges, including:
Vehicular homicide
Aggravated assault
Leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death
Failure to provide information and render aid
Driving on a revoked license (second offense)
Possession of methamphetamine
Violations related to Schedule XI drugs
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Simple possession/casual exchange
As of Friday, Bishop remains in custody.
