Taylor Burton Obituary, Death; – Police in Saginaw have confirmed the identity of a man who was fatally shot on the West Side of the city on Sunday, February 9.
Upon arrival, officers found 20-year-old Taylor Burton and initiated life-saving efforts until medical personnel could take over, as reported by the police. Burton was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance, where he was later declared dead.
The next of kin has been informed, according to the press release. Investigations into the shooting are being conducted by both Saginaw police and Michigan State Police detectives, with no arrests made thus far. This incident marks the third homicide in Saginaw for the year 2025.
The first homicide involved 36-year-old Terence L. Johnson, who was discovered with a fatal stab wound in the vicinity of South Sixth and Federal streets on the evening of January 20. No arrests or charges have been made in connection with Johnson’s death.
On January 31, Jordan J. Morris and another 17-year-old male arrived at Covenant HealthCare around 4 p.m. with gunshot wounds, with Morris succumbing to his injuries. In the previous year, Saginaw recorded 23 homicides, 21 of which were due to gunfire, while two additional fatalities resulted from vehicular assaults. Among the 23 victims, 22 were male and one was female, with ages ranging from 15 to 62, including three individuals aged 18 or younger. A total of 16 suspects have been arrested and charged in relation to 14 of these homicides.
In 2023, Saginaw experienced 14 homicides, marking the lowest rate in three years. The city recorded 19 homicides in both 2022 and 2021, 26 in 2020, nine in 2019, 15 in 2018, 16 in 2017, 11 in 2016, eight in 2015, 14 in 2014, and 28 in 2013. The highest homicide rate since 2007 occurred in 2012, with a total of 30 homicides.
