Tamarri Mason Obituary – A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Pecan Acres community of the city, resulting in the death of a teenager and the injury of another. The Petersburg City Public Schools system expressed their sorrow over the loss, specifically mentioning that the deceased teenager was a student at Petersburg High School. In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), they conveyed their deep sadness and extended their condolences to the victim’s family, friends, and the entire PHS community during this challenging time.
The victim was identified by the Petersburg Police as 17-year-old Tamarri Mason. The other shooting victim, a 15-year-old male whose identity remains unknown, was promptly taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury. Deputy Chief Emanuel Chambliss revealed that both Mason and the other youth were found shot at approximately 8:50 p.m. in the 600 block of Cottonwood Drive. Unfortunately, Mason had already succumbed to his injuries by the time emergency personnel arrived at the scene.
At present, no motive or suspect information has been provided regarding the incident. The police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Solvers at (804) 861-1212 or utilize the P3Tips mobile app. Regrettably, this marks the third homicide in Petersburg this year. Belinda Baugh, a pastor in Petersburg known for her advocacy on behalf of families of murder victims, expressed her frustration and made a plea on Facebook, urging an end to premature deaths in the city.
Baugh wrote, “I understand that for some, it may not seem personal. But if you ever find yourself standing there, doing your utmost to console someone while their loved one lies in the street, witnessing their families, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, aunties, and cousins screaming as they watch their son, grandchild, or granddaughter lying there, you’ll realize that words fail you. In those moments, you turn to the Lord, embrace them, and try to help them catch their breath amidst each scream.”
