Suzanne Michael Wilson Death – A 79-year-old woman has tragically lost her life as a result of a tree collapsing onto an apartment building during severe thunderstorms in central Alabama. Identified by the Jefferson County Coroner as Suzanne Michael Wilson, the incident occurred at the intersection of Montevallo Road and Petticoat Lane.
Mountain Brook Fire Battalion Chief Jon Entrekin disclosed that Wilson was the sole occupant of her unit when the tree toppled onto the building. Emergency response teams from Homewood Fire and Mountain Brook Fire were dispatched to Mountain Brook Court following the incident, which transpired after 6:30 a.m. on Monday.
Homewood Fire Battalion Chief Matt Shannon reported that while Homewood Fire offered structural assistance, Mountain Brook Fire focused on gaining access to the woman trapped inside her unit. Unfortunately, Wilson was discovered deceased.
Although another apartment unit sustained damage from the falling tree, there were no additional injuries reported. In the aftermath of the incident, utility services in the vicinity were disconnected, and several individuals were displaced due to property damage.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
