Susan Sam Fittro Obituary, Death; – After an extensive investigation lasting several months, the West Liberty police have classified the death of a woman in September 2024 as a homicide. On Thursday, January 23, authorities confirmed that the death of Susan “Sam” Fittro has been officially ruled a homicide.
Law enforcement responded to Fittro’s residence in West Liberty shortly before midnight on September 5, 2024. Upon arrival, they discovered her deceased at her home, with an autopsy revealing that she succumbed to a single gunshot wound. Authorities indicated that Fittro’s death was deemed suspicious, and a suspect was identified early in the investigation.
The suspect has been identified as Brady Scott Grimm. Officials reported that Grimm was involved in a domestic violence incident at his residence in Mount Pleasant at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the day of the murder, although specific details of that incident were not disclosed. It is alleged that Grimm subsequently shot Fittro at her West Liberty home around 5:53 p.m.
Following the incident, police stated that Grimm returned to his home in Mount Pleasant at 6:30 p.m. and later evaded law enforcement who were investigating the earlier domestic incident. During the pursuit, Grimm reportedly fired at police officers before ultimately crashing his vehicle. He was later found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Fittro was discovered approximately five hours later by a family member. According to the news release, Grimm is the son of Fittro’s late boyfriend. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation had prior knowledge of Grimm due to a previous shooting and death investigation in Mount Pleasant, although details of that case were not disclosed.
