It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Elaine Rourke. Born in Saint John on November 13th, 1963, to Leo and the late Audrey (Clark) Collings, Susan was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, and educator who touched countless lives throughout her journey.
Susan is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Brent, and their cherished sons, Thomas and his wife Colleen, along with their children Isla Elaine (named after Susan) and Alden; and Benjamin and his wife Kaitlin, along with their daughter Alice Mae. She also leaves behind her father, Leo Collings, and her siblings Kathie Rodger (John), Trudy Melvin (Bob), Louise McCarville (Gary), Maura Butko, James Collings, Peter Collings (Coleen), and Elizabeth Collings.
In addition to her immediate family, Susan is survived by her in-laws, Allie and Alice Rourke, as well as Danny Rourke (Pauline), Dale Rourke (Cathy), Sherrie Rourke (Steve Lohnes), and Debbie Hatt (Tim). She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored her. Susan was predeceased by her mother, Audrey, and her brother-in-law, Fred.
Susan dedicated 34 years of her life to education, teaching at Hampton schools. She began her career at the middle school level before transitioning to high school, where she ultimately retired as the head of the resource department. Throughout her career, Susan was known for her unwavering commitment to her students, offering them guidance, support, and encouragement. She touched hundreds of lives with her kindness, compassion, and dedication to education.
Her impact extended beyond the classroom, as she formed many lifelong friendships with her colleagues and fellow staff members. Susan was a true caregiver, always putting the needs of others before her own and ensuring that everyone she encountered felt valued and supported.
Susan’s legacy of love, education, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, former students, and the entire Hampton community.
A celebration of Susan’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of choice in Susan’s memory. May she rest in peace, knowing that her love and influence will endure for generations to come.
