Sue’s journey began at the tender age of 12 when she found solace in the embrace of faith at Brooksville Baptist Church. Her spiritual path led her to be baptized in the river, marking the beginning of a lifelong connection with her Christian beliefs. Sue’s unwavering faith remained a guiding light throughout her 95 years, and she was a cherished member of the First Baptist Church of Oneonta since the 1950s.
Professionally, Sue’s legacy was etched during her three-decade-long tenure at Compass Bank, where her commitment and hard work left an indelible mark. Her dedication to her career mirrored the same passion she brought to every aspect of her life.
Sue’s family meant everything to her, and she is survived by her loving children, Phyllis Ratliff and Brian Galbreath. Her granddaughter, Rachael Bynum, was a source of immense joy, and Sue found fulfillment in the family she nurtured over the years.
Sue’s siblings, sister Joyce Freeman and sister-in-law Charlotte French, were pillars of support, sharing both laughter and tears throughout the journey of life. In addition to her immediate family, Sue had a special place in her heart for caregivers Earlene Polk, Nickie Burks, Donna Henry, and Missy Polk, as well as her honorary granddaughter, Shivani Patel.
Friends and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Sue’s life on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Lemley Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A heartfelt funeral service, presided over by Dr. Larry Gipson, will commence at 12:00 PM in the Chapel. Sue will find her final resting place in Oak Hill Cemetery, surrounded by the love and memories she cultivated throughout her remarkable life.
As we bid farewell to Sue, let us reflect on the legacy of faith, dedication, and service she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her.
