GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A student captured on camera assaulting another classmate at Ashbrook High School will face charges, Gaston County Police announced.
The violent incident has caught the attention of both local authorities and the community.
On Thursday, several parents and community members stood outside Gaston County Schools’ property to voice their concerns following the assault.
Gaston County Police are actively investigating the classroom attack that was shared in a viral video on social media. The disturbing footage prompted school administrators to report the situation to the School Resource Officer (SRO), leading to an investigation, police said.
In a statement on Thursday, the Gaston County Police Department emphasized its commitment to taking all incidents of school violence seriously.
To further address the student attack, the case has been transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), which will work to obtain petitions related to this incident, police said.
However, due to North Carolina’s juvenile laws, authorities have said that the identities of the students involved, along with any criminal charges, will not be made public at this time.
As of now, no additional information has been released. School officials are working with law enforcement to ensure that all appropriate actions are taken under the law.
