Stefan Russell Smith Obituary, Death; – A deceased individual discovered alongside the road on Saturday in Sacramento County, near Galt, has been identified.
The remains of 32-year-old Stefan Russell Smith were located at approximately 10:30 a.m. on the shoulder of northbound Highway 99, just north of Twin Cities Road, as reported by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office. The specific cause and manner of his death remain undetermined.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Smith is believed to have connections to the Galt or Lodi regions.
The CHP informed ABC10 on Thursday that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Smith’s death is ongoing, including whether foul play was involved; however, investigators confirmed on Saturday that no vehicular accident had occurred.
An ABC10 reporter present at the scene on Saturday captured images of law enforcement conducting a search around a tent set up in a field adjacent to the northbound Highway 99 on-ramp from Twin Cities Road.
The CHP indicated that Smith may have been experiencing homelessness.
