Jonathan L. Koontz, a 31-year-old Springfield man, was tragically killed early Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident in the Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC) parking lot, according to Springfield Police.
Koontz was riding his Honda Navi motorcycle south on Hampton Avenue when he crossed Central Street and entered the OTC parking lot. While maneuvering in the lot, his motorcycle hit a curb, causing him to lose control. The impact sent Koontz through the landscaping before colliding with a retaining wall.
Emergency services were called to the scene, but tragically, Koontz was pronounced dead. His family has since been informed of the incident.
This accident marks the 17th fatal accident in Springfield in 2024, highlighting the ongoing safety concerns for motorists and motorcyclists in the area. Authorities have not released further details about the crash, while the investigation continues.
