CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — South Charlotte Middle School was evacuated earlier Friday after a concerning smoky smell was reported in the building.
The Charlotte Fire Department responded to the scene. Students and staff were not allowed to re-enter the school building until the source of the odor was thoroughly investigated.
South Charlotte Middle School Principal Bailes reached out to parents with a message notifying them of the evacuation and the school’s plans for an early dismissal.
“We have begun our early dismissal process,” Principal Bailes said in the announcement. “Parents may come and pick their students up, and transportation is coordinating buses to begin transporting as soon as they arrive. We will have school staff on-site to support until all our students have been accounted for.”
Charlotte Fire is continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the smoky smell.
