Solomon Henderson,Josselin Corea Escalante Obituary, Death; – A teenage male opened fire at a high school in Tennessee on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one student and injuries to another before he took his own life, according to police reports.
The Nashville police stated via social media that a 17-year-old student discharged several rounds from a pistol within the cafeteria of Antioch High School. A 16-year-old girl was fatally shot, while another 17-year-old boy sustained a minor injury from a bullet grazing his arm.
The shooter has been identified as Solomon Henderson, and the deceased girl was named Josselin Corea Escalante. Authorities are currently investigating the motive behind this tragic incident.
Antioch High School, which serves approximately 2,000 students, is situated in a suburb to the southeast of Nashville. This incident adds to the troubling trend of school shootings in the United States over recent decades, occurring nearly two years after a shooting at a private Christian school in Nashville that claimed the lives of three young students and three staff members.
“My heart goes out to these families as they face unimaginable loss,” stated Metro Nashville Public Schools Director Adrienne Battle during a press conference, as reported by the Tennessean newspaper.
Battle emphasized that Antioch High School is equipped with various safety measures, including a secured vestibule at the entrance, school resource officers, and surveillance cameras featuring weapon-detection technology, according to the Tennessean.
The K-12 School Shooting Database, established by researcher David Riedman, reported 330 school shootings in the United States last year, marking the second-highest total since records began in 1966, surpassed only by 2023, which recorded 349 incidents.
