Soccer Player Car Accident: Drugs, Alcohol Found In Soccer Star’s Car After Crash That killed Child
The tragic car accident on Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa has sparked widespread outrage and deepened concerns about road safety, accountability, and substance abuse among public figures.
The accident, which involved a BMW allegedly owned by a prominent soccer player, resulted in the death of a nine-year-old girl and left a 13-year-old neighbor seriously injured. The children were being driven to school by the nine-year-old’s mother when the collision occurred around 7:30 a.m.
When police arrived on the scene, they reportedly found several bottles of alcohol, suspected cocaine powder, and cannabis edibles in the BMW. Thabiso Makgato, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Metro Police, confirmed that a case has been opened for culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the accident scene.
However, the suspect, a 29-year-old who allegedly fled the scene immediately following the crash, has not been officially named pending verification of his driver’s license and additional investigation.
The tragic loss of the young girl’s life and the injuries to the 13-year-old and her mother have left the Tembisa community in mourning. Many are calling for justice and a thorough investigation into the soccer player’s involvement, as well as accountability regarding substance abuse while operating a vehicle.
This accident underscores the dangers of intoxicated driving and raises serious questions about the conduct of public figures who are meant to be role models, especially when their actions pose a threat to innocent lives.
The incident has reignited public discussions about stricter penalties for drunk and drugged driving, especially in cases where negligent actions lead to fatalities.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to confirm the identity of the driver and the contents found in his vehicle.
