Sherri Miller Obituary, Death; – On Sunday evening, law enforcement officials announced the arrest of an individual on a murder charge following the discovery of a deceased woman in her Fayetteville residence on Saturday, along with the report of her missing vehicle.
The incident was initially reported as “suspicious activity” shortly after 1:20 p.m. on Saturday at a property located in the 1500 block of Ireland Drive, as stated in a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department. Upon arrival, officers found an adult female inside the residence who had sustained fatal injuries, according to the release.
The victim has been identified as 57-year-old Sherri Miller, with authorities noting that her vehicle was unaccounted for at the scene. Officers requested the public’s assistance in locating a red Chevrolet Camaro and any individuals operating it.
Fayetteville police collaborated with deputies from Wayne County to apprehend the suspect, who was captured late Sunday morning in the vicinity of Goldsboro, as reported in a police news release.
Christopher Wayne Walker, aged 40, was taken into custody with the assistance of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, according to police reports. Walker faces a charge of first-degree murder and is currently being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center without the possibility of bond, as stated by law enforcement.
The Fayetteville Police Department expressed gratitude to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) for their support in locating Walker.
Detectives from Fayetteville police have indicated that they are no longer seeking the Camaro. No further details were provided by police on Sunday evening, and they emphasized that the investigation remains “active and ongoing.”
