Shawn Perich Obituary, Death Cause – On August 4, Dennis Perich, Shawn’s cousin, gave an interview to WTIP. Dennis said that the outdoors was where the man felt the most at ease. It was the environment in which he had the least amount of stress.
Anyone who knew Perich, a lifelong inhabitant of Hovland, may comprehend the feelings that his family and friends had about the outdoorsman author, who was also the former editor of Northern Wilds magazine and a co-owner of the publication.
The activities of hunting and fishing were the foundation of Perich’s way of life. His favorite fish was the brook trout. The better the stream, both in terms of its tightness and its isolation. That was the thinking behind Perich’s philosophy.
Perich, who was born and raised in Duluth, has created a successful career out of writing about the adventures he has had in and on the surrounding forests and rivers. He is the author of a number of publications about the outdoors in Minnesota, one of which is titled “Fishing Lake Superior: A Complete Guide to Stream, Shoreline, and Open-Water Angling.”
Northern Wilds was established in 2004 by Perich and another person who grew up in Cook County, named Amber Graham. Perich wrote in 2019 with a touch of irony about the magazine’s beginnings, “It was Amber’s idea,” referring to the person who conceived the notion.
The publication is still in circulation to this day, and it continues to fulfill its mission of giving local authors a venue in which to publish their work while also disseminating vital outdoor news from the Lake Superior and Boundary Waters region. He was really good about that,” Graham stated on August 4 to WTIP. “He takes great pride in assisting aspiring authors and serving as a mentor to them. It was important to him to pass on his expertise.
