Shawn Lee Baker Obituary, Death; – Oregon State Police announced on Thursday that the individual shot and killed by Salem police officers at an apartment complex was identified as 42-year-old Shawn Lee Baker. Baker was a wanted suspect. Officers pursued him into an apartment complex located near River Road North and Stark Street at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Authorities reported that he was in possession of a handgun.
Two officers from Salem confronted Baker and subsequently discharged their weapons, resulting in his death. Further details regarding the encounter have not been disclosed by the police.
OSP has named the involved officers as Chad Galusha and John Diaz. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure following police-involved shootings.
The investigation into the shooting is being conducted by the Oregon State Police. The family of the deceased informed KATU that their brother had visited the family business next door, expressed that he was hungry, and that was the last moment they saw him alive.
