According to the Franklin County coroner, Shakhar Chapagai, aged 30, was declared deceased at 10:33 p.m. on Wednesday at a hospital in Columbus. The identity of the first victim, discovered deceased at the KCD/One facility upon law enforcement’s arrival, has not yet been disclosed.
The alleged shooter, Bruce Reginald Foster III, is set to appear in court on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at the KDC/One building around 10:20 p.m., as reported by authorities. The company’s website indicates that KDC/One specializes in the production of cosmetics, toiletries, cleaning products, and insecticides.
In addition to the two fatalities, four other individuals sustained injuries during the shooting, although their current conditions remain unclear. Foster, 28, was confirmed to be an employee at the facility by New Albany police. Reports indicate that he had been working for several hours prior to the shooting and subsequently left the scene in a rideshare vehicle.
The motive behind the shooting is still undetermined. Police have stated that there were no signs of unusual behavior or any altercation leading up to the incident. At the time of the shooting, approximately 150 people were present in the warehouse, with some unaware of the situation until law enforcement arrived due to the facility’s size.
“This has been an extremely tragic event,” remarked New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones shortly after the incident. “This is something we hope would never occur in our community. However, we prepare for such situations, and here we are now.”
Foster was apprehended and taken into custody approximately 12 hours after the shooting, just south of the Ohio State campus in the Weinland Park neighborhood of Columbus. He faces a charge of aggravated murder and is scheduled to appear in Licking County Common Pleas Court at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
