GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The financial secretary for a Gaston County elementary school confessed to embezzling around $9,000, police say.
On Feb. 26, the Cherryville Police Department received a tip regarding an employee embezzling money from Cherryville Elementary School.
Following an investigation, officers discovered the employee, Helaine Marie Davis of Cherryville, had embezzled approximately $9,000 during the 2024-25 school year. Davis is listed on the school website as the school’s financial secretary and PowerSchool data manager.
Police said during the interview, Davis confessed to the embezzlement. Warrents were issued and served by Gastonia Police on Mar. 7.
She received a $10,000 secured bond and has since been released from the Gaston County Detention Center.
