MOUNTAIN COUNTIES (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Students and staff in one mountain county are on a snow day on Thursday.
Watauga County Schools says they will not have school on Jan. 9 due to decreasing temperatures, areas of snow and ice-covered roads in the district. There is not remote learning.
Schools will be closed to students, teachers and 10-month employees. Eleven- and 12-month employees have the option to report on a 2-hour delay if needed.
The holiday/ snow day program at Hardin Park will begin at 8:30 a.m. Those who have to drive are asked to remain cautious.

Ashe County Schools say that roads in its district remain hazardous. As a result, schools will have a remote learning day starting at 10 a.m.
Avery County Schools reports that its schools will be on a 3-hour delay. Buses will not be able to access certain gravel roads. For a full list of those roads, CLICK HERE.
